Where to Start

Home » Where to Start

Deciding to start therapy can be scary and stressful, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Historically, there has been a stigma associated with mental health, substance use, and receiving treatment. Capital Area Counseling Service is here to break that stigma and provide quality and personalized services for every individual. Therapy can be beneficial through a multitude of challenges that one may experience. Whether you are seeking services for yourself or researching resources for a loved one, CACS is ready to help you along every step of your recovery journey, guiding you to acceptance and healing. Our staff are dedicated to serving you and your family on a level that is comfortable and beneficial for you.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I CALL?

When you call the CACS, our friendly staff will ask you a few questions to better understand your unique needs. The first thing we will need to know is whether you are seeking mental health or substance use services. From there you will be in contact with either our mental health or substance use intake specialists depending on your needs. They will ask a few more questions to get to know you better such as presenting issues, your date of birth, and contact information.

Substance Use Services:

If you are seeking Substance Use Services, we will first schedule an assessment. An assessment includes an interview with a certified or licensed substance use counselor and identifies your strengths and needs and develops an individualized treatment plan.

Mental Health Services:

If you are seeking Mental Health Services, we will first determine your needs and presenting problem. The next step in mental health services is matching you with a mental health professional. It is important for you to know that at some times there is a waiting list for services. We know that your mental health and wellness is of utmost importance, that’s why if you are placed on a waiting list, our staff will be sure to keep in touch and pair you with a clinician as soon as possible.

GETTING PAIRED WITH A CLINICIAN:

When it is time to pair you with a clinician, we try our best to pair you with a professional best equipped to help you cope and heal. We understand that not all personalities can match. Our clinicians are professionals and are trained to help all individuals; however, if you feel that you may have a better experience with a different clinician, we will do our best to accommodate that need. There may be a longer waiting period for individuals who wish to switch clinicians.

PAYING FOR SERVICES:

Mental health and substance use services are important and everyone deserves access to treatment. At Capital Area Counseling Service, no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Many services at CACS are covered by major insurance. Financial assistance is available based on income and family size. Please speak with our staff at your first appointment if you are unable to pay for services and we will be happy to talk with you about assistance options.
