CACS and YMCA Wrap Up the Walk/Run 60 for 60 Event
Monday, December 17, 2018
(Pierre, SD) Capital Area Counseling Services (CACS) and the Oahe YMCA partnered with the Mobros/Mosistas of Central South Dakota to support the Movember Foundation in November. The Movember Foundation is a global awareness campaign for men that focuses on suicide prevention, as well as testicular and prostate cancer awareness.
Globally, the Movember Foundation reported that 60 men die every hour by suicide. So for the month of November, CACS and the Oahe YMCA encouraged community members to participate in the Move for Movember event. The goal was to walk or run 60 miles throughout the month to promote men’s mental health awareness. Every mile logged represented one man that died by suicide each hour across the world.
This was the first year for the walk/run 60 for 60 event and CACS and the YMCA were pleased with the number of participants. In total, there were 63 participants that logged 2,900 miles over the month of November. That is 2,900 miles for 2,900 men.
Thank you to everyone who took part in this important public awareness event. We look forward to next year with MOre people, MOre miles and raising MOre awareness about men’s mental health.
