The Capital Area Counseling Service (CACS) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the staff at CACS has selected Julie Moore of the Avera St. Mary’s Foundation as this year’s winner of our Community Partner Award. In her work at the Foundation, Julie provides leadership throughout Central South Dakota in suicide prevention. This award is to honor people who work closely with CACS staff to ensure the mental health and addiction treatment needs of citizens are addressed. In nominating Julie, a CACS staff member said, “Julie is working endlessly to eliminate the negative stigma of getting help for mental illness and for maintaining one's mental health. She is working very hard to educate the community on the truth about suicide and those who die by suicide. She leads the Suicide Prevention group and the Walk for the prevention of suicide.” Another staff member said, “Julie is passionate about helping those hurt by suicide not feel ashamed and alone because of the way their loved one passed. Julie always takes time for those in need of an ear and always seems to have something uplifting to offer.”
